 Victory Day is to commemorate victories in important battles or wars in the different
countries.
Russian Federation:
In the Russian Federation and some former USSR countries, The Day marks the capitulation
of Nazi Germany to the Soviet Union at the end of the Second World War.
The Soviet government announced the victory early on May 9, 1945 after the signing
ceremony in Berlin.
Russia, Armenia, Azerbaijan, Belarus, Georgia, Kazakhstan, Kyrgyzstan, Moldova, Montenegro,
Tajikistan, Turkmenistan, Ukraine celebrate their day on May 9th as a national holiday.
Europe Victory Day:
This Day marks the end of World War II in Europe on May 8, 1945.
Most of the Europe countries celebrate this day. French Polynesia, Guadeloupe,
New Caledonia, Saint Pierre and Miquelon, Slovakia, Wallis and Futuna celebrate this day
as a national holiday.
Mujahideen Victory Day:
This Day is a political holiday in Afghanistan. It commemorates the day when
the Afghan mujahideen overthrew the Russian-backed regime in Afghanistan in 28th April 1992.
Bangladesh:
It is a national holiday in Bangladesh on December 16. It commemorates the surrender of Pakistani
forces in the Bangladesh Liberation War in 1971.
Victory from Genocide Day:
It is celebrated on 7th January. It commemorates the end of the Khmer
Rouge regime after their defeat by the Vietnamese in 1979.
Estonia:
It is a public holiday in Estonia on 23rd June. It recalls the victory in the 1919 Battle of Wenden.
Ethiopia:
Victory of Adowa(Adwa), is celebrated on 2nd March as a public holiday in Ethiopia. It reminds the
battle of the First Italo–Ethiopian War.
Patriots Victory Day is a national holiday in Ethiopia on 5th May.
Maldives:
This Day is celebrated on 3rd November in Maldives.
Malta:
The Day on September 8 is a national holiday in Malta. It commemorate the victory of the
Knights Hospitaller over the Ottoman Turks in the Great Siege of 1565 and the capitulation
of Italy in 1943.
Mozambique:
The Day celebrated on September 7 is a national holiday in Mozambique to commemorate the signing
of the agreement to end the Mozambican War of Independence.
North Korea:
It is celebrated on 27th July in North Korea.
Paraguay:
Boqueron Battle Victory Day is celebrated on 29th September in Paraguay.
Turkey:
This Day on August 30 is a national holiday in Turkey to commemorate the victory in
the Battle of Dumlup?nar, the final battle in the Turkish War of Independence in 1922.
