Republic Day is to commemorate the day when a country became republics.
It is a public holiday in several countries.
Albania:
Albania celebrates its republic day on January 11th since 1946.
Armenia and Azerbaijan:
On May 28, 1918 Armenia and Azerbaijan declared independence from the Transcaucasian
Democratic Federative Republic. It was the first sovereign republic forming Democratic
Republic of Armenia and Azerbaijan Democratic Republic.
Bosnia and Herzegovina:
On 9th January 1992, Bosnian Serb authorities declared creation of Serbian Republic
of Bosnia and Herzegovina, which later changed name into Republika Srpska. So, this
day is considered as Republic Day.
Brazil:
On November 15, 1889 a military coup led by Field Marshal Deodoro da Fonseca overthrew
Emperor Pedro II and declared Brazil a republic. It is called as Proclamation of the
Republic Day.
Burkina Faso:
In December 11th 1958, Upper Volta became an autonomous republic
in the French Community.
Burundi:
In Burundi, it is celebrated on 28th November.
Chad:
This day is celebrated on 28th November in Chad.
Gambia:
In Gambia, it is celebrated on April 24 since 1970.
Guyana:
In Guyana, This Day was adopted on February 23 1970. It is also known as Mashramani.
Hungary:
This day is celebrated on 23rd October in Hungary.
India:
The Republic Day is a national holiday of India to mark the adoption of the
Constitution of India and the transition of India from a British Dominion
on January 26, 1950.
On this day every year, a grand parade is held in the capital of India, New Delhi near
the Rashtrapati Bhavan(President's Palace). The different regiments of the Army, the Navy
and the Air Force march past in all their finery and official decorations.
The President of India who is the Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Armed Forces, takes
the salute. The country hosts another head of state as the chief guest on this day.
Iraq:
The reinstated Hashemite monarchy lasted until 1958, when it was overthrown by a coup
d'etat of the Iraqi Army, known as the 14 July Revolution.
Italy:
The Festa della Repubblica is celebrated on the 2nd June. It commemorates the
institutional referendum of 1946 when the Italian population was called to decide what
form of government to give to the country after World War II and the fall of Fascism.
Kazakhstan:
October 25, the anniversary of the adoption of the 'Declaration on State Sovereignty
of Kazakh SSR' by the Kazakh legislature in 1990. It is now commemorated as Republic Day.
Laos:
In Laos, This Day is celebrated on 2nd December.
Latvia:
In Latvia, It is celebrated on 18th November.
Macedonia:
Macedonia, celebrates the day on 2nd August.
Malawi:
Malawi, celebrates on 6th July.
Maldives:
On November 11, 1968, the Maldivian constitution was amended and Maldives became a republic.
Mali:
In Mali, This day is celebrated on 22nd September.
Malta:
Malta, celebrates on 13th December.
Mongolia:
In Mongolia, is celebrated on 26th November.
Montenegro:
Montenegro, celebrates on 29th November.
Niger:
December 18th 1958 is commemorated in the Republic of Niger.
Portugal:
October 5 in Portugal is known as "Implantation of the Republic". It
commemorates the proclamation of the Portuguese First Republic in 1910.
San Marino:
In San Marino, it is celebrated on 3rd September.
Trinidad and Tobago:
Trinidad and Tobago, celebrates on 24th September.
Tunisia:
In Tunisia, The Day was adopted on July 25th 1957.
Turkey:
On October 29, 1923, the Turkish constitution was amended and Turkey became a republic.
