Korean New Year commonly known as Seollal or Solnal, is the first day of the lunar Korean calendar. It is the most important of the traditional Korean holidays. This Day is generally falls on the day of the second new moon after winter solstice.

The biggest festival in Korea today is Seollal The Korean New Year holidays lasts for three days. It is considered as a more important traditional holiday than the solar New Year's Day. The term Seollal is also used to refer to the solar new year.

On the eve, people clean their houses and light it with colorful halogens. At the evening of this day, Koreans take a bath with hot water and burn bamboo sticks to casts off the evil spell.

Many Koreans dress up in hanbok especially Children, the traditional Koreans clothing. They kneel and bow to their ancestors and elders to get their blessings.

Family members wish each other prosperity and good fortune. Children receive lucky money, candy and fruit from the elders.

The family spends time together and have Tteok guk (rice-cake soup) for breakfast.
