Memorial Day is a United States federal holiday observed on the last Monday
of May. It is a day of remembrance for U.S. men and women who have died in nation's
service.
It is originally called as Decoration Day. Many observed this holiday by visiting
cemeteries and memorials.
It is also a national holiday in American Samoa, Northern Mariana Islands, Puerto
Rico, US Virgin Islands.
Argentina :
Day of Memory for Truth and Justice is a public holiday in Argentina. It commemorates
the victims of the military dictatorship known as the National Reorganization
Process.
It is celebrated on 24 March. It was considered as the anniversary of the coup d'etat
of 1976 that brought the military junta to power.
Marshall Island :
Memorial Day is celebrated on March 1st as a national holiday. It commemorates honors
the victims and survivors of all the nuclear tests conducted in the Marshall
Islands.
South Korea :
South Korea celebrates Memorial Day on June 6th. The day commemorates men and women
who died while in military service or independence movement.
On this day, national commemorating ceremony is held in National Cemetery.
Taiwan
Peace Memorial Day is celebrated on 28th February. It is often called as
228 Incidenter Messacre. It is a public holiday.
It was an anti-government uprising in Taiwan that began on February 27, 1947
and was violently suppressed by the Kuomintang (KMT) government.
